Dominiquea Christine Trotter was born on April 22, 1996 in New Jersey to Tommy and Denise Trotter. She has an older sister, Karissa, 18. Dominiquea, or Nikka as she is known to her family and friends, is in ninth grade at Mater Dei High School, where her favorite school subject is science.

When Nikka was one, her mom signed her up for Mommy and Me classes at Rebound Gymnastics. She has been there ever since! Currently, she is a junior pre-elite gymnast training under coaches Diane Farrell, Chris McSweeny and Kim Dziomba.

Dominiquea competed as a level four in 2004. She won the balance beam title at the Parkette Invitational. At the Level 4 State Championships, she finished second on balance beam and in the all-around. In the fall, she made the Diamond National TOPs Team. She competed as a level six and seven in 2006. She won the all-around title at the 2006 Rutgers Classic. Nikka then moved up to level eight in 2007. She finished second in the all-around and first on floor exercise and uneven bars at the Friendship Classic. In November, Nikka competed as a level nine.

In 2009, Nikka moved up to level ten. She won the all-around title at the Parkette Invitational. At the Level 10 State Championships, she finished in the top ten. Dominiquea qualified for the US Challenge as a junior pre-elite.

Dominiquea missed most of 2010 season due to an injury. In June, she traveled to Florida for the Bieger's Elite Qualifier, where she finished 12th overall. She concluded her 2010 season at the Texas National Elite Qualifier.
