Alyssa Hernandez was born on November 27, 1992. She trained at Kurt Thomas Gymnastics through the 2005 season. She then moved to Dallas Gymnastics Center. After the gym closed, she returned to Kurt Thomas. Alyssa began competing for US Gold in 2009. She will graduate from high school in 2011.

In 2005, Alyssa competed level seven. She moved up to level eight in 2007. She competed at Regionals. Alyssa continued competing level eight in 2008. She moved up to level nine in 2009. She finished third on vault and floor at the Texas Prime meet. At the Rose City Classic, she placed second on floor. Alyssa finished in the top twenty all-around at the State Championships. She placed second on floor at Regionals. She competed at Westerns. In 2010, Alyssa finished third on beam and the Metroplex Challenge. She won beam at the Kurt Thomas Invitational. She placed second all-around. At Regionals, she finished first on floor.
