Andavea Alexander was born on March 28, 1996. She began gymnastics at the age of seven. She has trained at Lafleur's Largo, Cobb County and Cartersville Twisters during her early years of training. She was invited to join the level four team at Cobb County in Georgia. After competing once, she moved to Cartersville Twisters. She competed once as a level five then moved up to level six. She won the state beam and floor titles. Andavea's family moved to Missouri. She began training at Great American Gymnastics Express. After one year, the family moved to Iowa to train at Chow's Gymnastics & Dance Institute. Andavea now trains at Triad Gymnastics.
In 2007, Andavea competed level eight. At the WOGA Classic, she finished fourth on floor. She won vault and beam at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge in California. She finished second all-around. At her home meet, the Dragon Invitational, she again took second all-around. She won silver medals on beam and floor. At the Rising States Invitational she finished second all-around. Andavea won the Missouri State all-around, beam and floor titles. At Regionals, she finished third all-around. She placed second on beam and floor.
Andavea moved up to level nine for the 2008 season. She won the NAWGJ Judges Cup. At the Rising Stars Invitational, she won bars and floor. Andavea placed third all-around at the Gymquarters Invite. At the Golden Invitational, she won bars, beam and the all-around. She continued having a great season at the Iowa State Championships. She won bars and the all-around titles. She finished second on beam and floor. At Regionals, she finished fifth all-around. She finished in the top twenty at Westerns! Andy missed her level ten season in 2009 because of a muscle strain injury. In June, she tested elite compulsories at the Parkette National Qualifier. She earned her pre-elite optional score at the July Elite Qualifier.
