Megan Alvarez was born on May 30, 1992. She trained at Illinois Gymnastics Institute during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2010.
In 2003, Megan won the all-around title at the State Championships. She competed level seven in 2004. In 2005, Megan competed level eight. She finished seventh all-around at Regionals in 2006. She moved up to level nine in 2007. She qualified to Easterns. Megan began competing level ten in 2008. She competed on beam at the Bravo Classic. In 2009, she finished in the top ten at the Flip'r Invitational. She placed in the top twenty all-around at Regionals. In 2010, Megan competed on bars only at the King Arthur Invitational, IGI Chicago Style, Pikes Peak Cup and Arena Classic. She competed on bars and beam at both the State and Regional Championships.
As a freshman at Minnesota in 2011, Megan competed on bars at Michigan State. She also competed on bars against Air Force.
