Janet Anson was born to Ernie and Lynn on December 26, 1984. She trained at Mercury Gymnastics until 2000. Janet competed for Edge from 2001 to the end of her club career.
Janet qualified to four JO Nationals. She placed in the top twenty all-around in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Janet was a regional floor champion in 2003 and a three-time state uneven bar champion.
She began attending school at Iowa State in the fall of 2003. Her first NCAA season was in 2004. Janet was a First-Team All-American on vault and second-team on floor and in the all-around. She was the Iowa State Female Student-Athlete of the Year and the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year. During her sophomore season she finished second on vault. She won first-team All-American honors on vault again. Janet also won the floor title at Big 12s. Her 2006 year was even better. Janet earned first-team All-American honors on vault, floor and in the all-around. She was third on floor at NCAA nationals. Janet was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Year.
As a senior, she was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Year for the second time. She was the first gymnast in Big 12 history to earn the honor two years in a row. She won bars and placed second in the all-around and vault at the Big 12 Championships. She earned Big-12 first-team honors on each event. Janet earned Big 12 Gymnast of the Week twice. She won 25 event titles. She won her first of five eventual beam titles senior year.
