Alexandra Skinner was born on November 27, 1991. She trained at Kurt Thomas Gymnastics under Kurt Thomas. She graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2005, Alexandra competed level eight. She placed third on vault at the Cancun Classic. She won vault at Regionals. Alexandra moved up to level nine in 2006. She won the all-around title at the Kurt Thomas Invitational. She placed first on vault and third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she won vault. Alexandra competed level ten in 2008. She did not compete on bars at Regionals.

In 2009, Alexandra placed third all-around at the Texas Prime Meet. She finished second on floor at the Mary Lou Retton Invitational. She finished eighth all-around at Regionals. Alexandra finished fourth all-around at the 2010 Statewide Qualifier. She finished fourth on vault at the Texas Prime meet. At the Houston National Invitational, she placed second n floor. Alexandra did not compete on bars at the State Championships. She suffered an injury during her floor routine at Regionals.

As a freshman at Missouri in 2011, Alexandra performed on vault and beam.
