Alicia Asturias was born on May 27, 1992. She trained at West Valley through the 2005 season. She then moved to Technique. Alicia graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2003, Alicia competed level seven. She won floor at the State Championships. She moved up to level eight in 2004. She finished third all-around at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She began competing level nine in 2005. She finished fourth all-around at the Gold Medal Invitational. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished in the top fifteen. Alicia finished 21st all-around at Westerns.

Alicia continued competing level nine in 2006. She won vault and the all-around at the Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault, beam and the all-around. Alicia finished second all-around at Regionals. She moved up to level ten in 2007. She finished third all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. At the State Championships, she placed fourth all-around. Alicia finished second on floor and sixth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2008, Alicia finished first on bars and the all-around at the National Judges Cup. She won vault at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Battle in Seattle, she won floor and the all-around. Alicia won vault at the Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault. Alicia finished tenth all-around at Regionals.

In 2009, Alicia finished first on vault at the Lady Luck Invitational. She placed first on vault, floor and the all-around at the Golden State Classic. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, Alicia placed second all-around. She finished twelfth all-around at JO Nationals. She placed sixth on vault. In 2010, Alicia finished third all-around at the Red Heart 10.0 Invitational. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the Aloha Gymfest. At the San Diego Classic, she finished third all-around.

As a freshman at Cal, Alicia competed in the all-around at every meet except for one. She qualified to NCAA Regionals as an individual.
