Ashley Szafranski was born on October 17, 1998. Her sister, Kaitlyn, is an elite gymnast. Ashley trained at Diamond Gymnastics until 2007. She then moved to First State Gymnastics. Following the 2009 season, Ashley began training at Parkettes.

She competed level five in November of 2006, finishing tenth all-around at the Blackeyed Susan meet. In 2008, Ashley competed level seven. She finished second on beam and floor at the Friendship Classic. She finished first on beam and floor at the State Championships. She placed second all-around. In the fall, Ashley made the National TOPs "B" Team. Ashley competed level eight in the 2008-2009 season. In December, she placed third all-around at the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. She won bars, beam, floor and the all-around in January at the Maryland Classic. At the Hard Rock Invitational, Ashley won bars, floor and the all-around. She ended her season at Regionals, placing fourth on bars and beam. She made her second National TOPs "B" Team in the fall.

In 2010, Ashley began the season competing level nine. She won the all-around at the Maryland Classic. At the Parkette Invitational, she won vault, bars and the all-around. The next day, Ashley competed level ten. She finished second on bars, third on floor and fourth all-around. At the Fiesta Bowl Invitational, she won bars, beam and the all-around. At the Excalibur Cup, Ashley placed second on bars. In March, Ashley competed at the Gymnix International. She returned to level nine for the rest of the season. At Regionals, she placed ninth all-around. She finished fourth on bars and beam. In June, Ashley qualified to hopes at the Bieger Elite Qualifier.
