Caitlin Atkinson was born on October 1, 1994. She trains at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics in Texas.

In 2004, she competed as a level seven. She finished second all-around at the WOGA Classic. She won vault. She moved up to level eight in 2005. She won the WOGA Classic. At the American Twisters Invitational, she also won the all-around. Caitlin finished third on floor at the Level 8 Regional Championships. She advanced to level nine in 2006. She finished third all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational and first all-around at the San Diego Classic. At the Texas State Championships, she finished fourth all-around. At Regionals, she qualified for the Western Championships. Caitlin finished in the top twenty at Westerns. Her performance was highlighted by a fifth place finish on beam.

Caitlin moved up to level ten in 2007. She won beam and floor at the Lady Luck Invitational and Texas Statewide Qualifier. At States, she finished sixth all-around. Caitlin's final level ten meet of the season was Regionals. Shortly after Regionals, she qualified for junior pre-elite. She competed at the American Challenge. In 2008, Caitlin won the all-around at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. In addition to the all-around title, she won vault and finished third on floor. In May, at the National Elite Qualifier, she earned her junior international elite score. In addition, she qualified to her first US National Championships. Later that month she participated in the US Classic. She ended her season with a respectable finish at Nationals.

Caitlin began 2009 at the Lady Luck Invitational. She finished second all-around. She also placed second on vault and bars. She then won bars at the Mary Lou Retton Invitational. She earned her junior international elite score at the Excalibur Cup. She put in a solid performance at the American Classic in early April. She competed at the July National Qualifier as a warm-up meet for the US Classic. She ended her season at the US Classic. In 2010, she won the all-around at the Metroplex Challenge, also earning her senior international elite optional score. Caitlin put in several solid performances at elite qualifiers. She also competed at the US Classic. In 2011, Caitlin placed second on beam and first on bars at the Space City Classic. She finished third all-around at the USA Gymnastics Open Championships. Caitlin returned to level ten for the 2012 season. She finished first on vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Tiger Classic. She finished first on vault, floor and the all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. At the Space City Classic, she won all five gold medals. Caitlin won the all-around title at the WOGA Classic with a 38.975.
