Hazel Balakit was born on June 8, 1996. She trained at Alamo Gymnastics through the 2010 season. She then moved to USA Aerial Athletics. She will graduate from high school in 2014.

In 2005, Hazel competed level six. She competed level seven in 20087. She won vault, bars, beam and the all-around titles at the IGI Chicago Style. Hazel moved up to level eight in 2008. She won beam and floor at the Hard Rock Invitational. She finished second all-around. Hazel placed in the top twenty all-around at both the State and Regional Championships. In 2009, she finished fourth on vault at the Lady Luck Invitational. She moved up to level nine in 2010. She placed fourth on vault at the Metroplex Challenge and third on beam at the Svetlana Invitational. She finished in the top ten all-around at the Houston National Invitational. She competed at the State Championships.
