Emily Basara was born on October 30, 1996. Her younger sister, Lyndsey, is also a gymnast. Emily trains at Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee in Illinois. She will graduate from high school in 2015.
In 2005, Emily competed level five. She finished fourth on bars and seventh all-around at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2006. She finished third on vault at the Cupid's Twist meet. She won floor at the Bravo Classic. At the State Championships, she placed third on bars and floor. Emily began competing level seven in 2007. She finished third on floor at the Midwest Open. She also placed third on floor at the State Championships. In 2008, she finished second on bars and floor at the Bravo Classic. She placed second on floor at the IGI Chicago Style. She won beam at the Cupid's Twist meet. At the State Championships, she placed second all-around.
Emily moved up to level eight in 2009. She finished third on beam and floor at the St. Jude Benefit meet. She won beam at the Bravo Classic. She competed at Regionals. In 2010, she won bars and floor at the Bravo Classic. She finished fourth all-around at both the King Arthur Invitational and IGI Chicago Style. At the BIG Dream Classic, she won floor. Emily won bars and floor at the Midwest Open. At the State Championships, she finished first on bars and floor. She placed second all-around. Emily finished in the top fifteen at Regionals.
She began competing level nine in 2011. She won vault and floor at the St. Jude Benefit meet. She finished third on vault and floor at the Bravo Classic. She placed third all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the BIG Dream Classic, she won the all-around title. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the Midwest Open. At the State Championships, she placed in the top ten. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed fifth on beam.
