Kristina Marie Baskett was born on June 5, 1987. She is the daughter of Jean and Randy. Kristina has a brother named Ricky. She trained at Puget Sound Gymnastics under Brad Loan and Candyce Chittinden. Kristina graduated from Mt. Rainier High School. She was on the National TOPs Team in 1997 and 1998.

In 1999, Kristina competed as a child national elite. She finished third overall at the American Challenge. She qualified to compete at the National Gymnastics Festival. Kristina also became a member of the National Elite Training Squad. Kristina won the Cop Invitational in Monterey, Mexico. She made junior international elite in 2000. Kristina competed at the US Classic. In 2001, she continued to compete as a junior international elite. At the US Classic, she finished fifteenth all-around. This qualified her for the US National Championships. At Nationals, she finished in the top twenty-five. Her final year as a junior was in 2002. She placed sixteenth all-around at the US Classic. At Nationals, she missed the national team by two spots. Kristina won the Costa Rica Invitational in 2002.

She qualified to senior international elite in 2003. At the US Classic, she qualified to the US National Championships. She broke her foot two days before the meet. In 2004, Kristina competed as a senior international elite at the American Classic and the US Classic. She had multiple falls on beam. In 2005, Kristina re-qualified to senior international elite but decided to do level ten. At the JO National Championships, she won the vault and floor titles. Kristina also won the all-around title!

Kristina went to the University of Utah in 2005. She made the Dean's List and the Athletics Director's Honor Roll in her freshman year. She was a NACGC Scholastic All-American and Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete. She also won Utah's Dahl Award. She was the NCAA uneven bar champion and first-team All-American on bars. She was a second-team All-American on vault. She had eighteen individual victories. Kristina won an all-around title against Nebraska.

As a sophomore, she was a first-team All-American on uneven bars. At the NCAA Regionals, she won vault and finished second all-around. She was second on team with twenty one victories. She was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large second team. She won Utah's Dahl Award for academic and athletic success. Academically, she made the Dean's List and Athletics Academic Honor Roll.

During her junior season, she was an NCAA first-team All-American in the all-around, vault, bars and floor. She was also the NCAA Regional vault champion. She placed second in the all-around. She won ten bars titles. She was CoSIDA Academic All-American At-Large second-team. She also made the NACGC Scholastic All-American list. She was a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete.

She ended her career strongly as a senior. She was the NCAA all-around runner-up and bronze medalist on vault, bars and beam. She was a five-time All-American with first team honors in the all-around and on vault, bars and beam. She was second-team on floor. She won Regionals in the all-around, vault and floor. She led the Utah team with 35 wins. She was named first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American on the at-large team.
