Emily Bates was born on July 16, 1995. She trains at Central California Gymnastics Institute, CCGI, in Visalia, California, where she is coached by Link and Donna Franzini. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In the spring of 2003, Emily competed level four. She won floor at the Ice Breaker meet. She competed level five in the fall. She won vault at the Tri-Valley Invite. At the Zone Championships, she won all five gold medals. She finished second on floor at the State Championships. In 2005, Emily competed level seven. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She moved up to level eight in 2006. She finished third on beam at the Mardi Gras Invitational. She competed at both the State and Regional Championships. In 2007, she finished first on beam at the State Championships. She placed in the top ten at Regionals. Emily moved up to level nine in 2008. She placed second all-around at the Tachi Palace Invitational. She finished third all-around at both the Go For It Classic and AOGC Invitational. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. Emily competed at Regionals.
Emily continued competing level nine in 2009. She won beam at the Tachi Palace Invitational. She placed third all-around at the Long Beach Open. At the State Championships, she finished fourth all-around. She won bars at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed third on bars and beam. She finished fifth all-around. Emily competed level ten in 2010. She finished in the top ten at the Lady Luck Invitational, Tachi Palace Invitational and Battle in Seattle. In November, Emily tore a ligament in her hip due to her bones being shaped incorrectly. She is now fully recovered and looks forward to the 2012 season.
