Kendall Rhea Beck was born in San Antonio, Texas, on August 6, 1981. She is the daughter of Amy and Brian Beck. Her sister, Stacey, was a member of the varsity crew team at University of Texas-Austin. She began gymnastics in 1985. She trained at Cypress in the beginning of her elite career. In 1999, she moved to Parkettes.

In 1994, Kendall competed as a junior international elite. She finished second on beam at the US Classic. Kendall placed second on vault at the 1995 US Classic. In 1996, she finished seventh all-around at the US Classic. She won vault. At the US National Championships, Kendall made her first national team. In 1997, she moved up to the senior international elite division. Kendall placed third all-around at the US Classic. She then finished eighth all-around and first on beam at the US National Championships. She was named to the World Team.

Kendall competed at the International Team Championships and Pacific Alliance Championships in 1998. After several injuries, Kendall returned to place fourth all-around at the 2000 US Classic. She then finished third on vault at the US National Championships. Kendall ended her elite career at the Olympic Trials.

In 2001, Kendall tore her ACL for the fourth time. She redshirted her freshman year at Stanford. As a sophomore, she scored a 9.9 on vault at the NCAA Championships. She was awarded first team all-american honors. She was the most consistent vaulter on the Stanford time. Kendall scored above a 9.9 five times on vault. She also competed on beam. As a junior, she primarily competed on vault and beam. She did not compete at the Pac-10 Championships because of an injury. Kendall competed on vault and beam as a senior.
