Ariana Alyse Berlin was born in San Diego, California on October 29, 1987. She is the daughter of Howard and Susan. She graduated a year early from Patrick Henry High School. Ariana trained at South Coast Gymnastics during her club career. She was forced into a retirement from a serious car accident in 2001. She began break dancing. She was the youngest person on the dance troupe, Culture Shock of San Diego. She was also a dancer for three years at Sea World San Diego. Ariana walked on to the UCLA gymnastics team in the fall of 2005. She has earned a scholarship.

In 1999, she competed as a level nine. She finished first all-around at the Level 9 Western Championships. She was training elite at the time of her accident. As a freshman at UCLA, she competed in the all-around. She was selected the UCLA/Met-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week in January. Ariana also earned Pac-10 Gymnastics of the Week honors. She finished third on vault at the NCAA Regional Championships. She was named Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year.

Ariana was an NACGC Scholastic All-American and an honorable mention pac-10 All-Academic honoree. She placed in the top three in five of her seven all-around comeptitions. She won the all-around at the John Wooden Challenge. She led off on vault in the final rotation of the NCAA Championships. She continued to be a solid contributor during her junior season. She won beam against Washington. She recorded two third place finishes on uneven bars against Cal and at the Pac-10 Championships. She competed in the all-around nine times. She finished third in the all-around at the Pac-10 Championships. She was a first-team All-Pac-10 in the all-around. Ariana was also an NACGC Scholastic All-American and second-team Pac-10 All-Academic selection.

During her senior season, she competed in the all-around seven times. She competed on bars at every meet. She qualified to the NCAA Event Finals on uneven bars. She finished fourth all-around at the NCAA Championships. She became a four-time All-American. UCLA named her Gymnast of the Year. She was named Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for gymnastics. She comepted in every meet during her four-yera career at UCLA.
