Becky Bernard was born on March 10, 1987. She is the daughter of Steve and Jeanne. She has two brothers, Brian and Joey. She trained at Flytz USA Gymnastics under Terry Gray during her club career. She graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School.
In 2001, Becky began competing as a level ten. She finished third on bars and fifth on beam at JO Nationals. She won beam at States in 2002. In 2003, Becky placed first on bars and beam at States. She then won the Regional all-around title. At JO Nationals, Becky placed first on bars and second all-around. She was in the top ten on all events. In 2004, she won the state all-around, bars and beam titles. Becky won her second Regional all-around title. At JO Nationals, she won bars and finished tenth all-around. At the 2005 State Championships, Becky placed first on everything but floor.
Becky began attending the University of Michigan in the fall of 2005. She was a NCAA All-American second-team honoree on bars. She earned the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award as a freshman. Becky became the first freshman since 2002 to win an individual event title in her first collegiate meet by winning bars against Nebraska. Becky had a great sophomore season. She was All-Big Ten First Team. She won the balance beam title at Big Ten Championships. Becky earned two Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors. She competed in the all-around.
As a junior, she earned NCAA All-American first-team honors on uneven bars. She was also on the All-Big Ten First Team and the Academic All-Big Ten team. She finished twelfth in event finals at the NCAA Championships. She won six bars titles during the year. She won three straight bars titles a row in the early half of the season. In 2009, she won bars at the NCAA Regional Championships. She was on the All-Big Ten Second-Team and on the Academic All-Big Ten Team. She qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual on bars. She continued competing on bars and beam as a senior.
