Makayla Betz was born on December 6, 1994. She trained at Excalibur through the 2004 season. As a navy brat, she then moved to Emerald City Gymnastics in Washington. She moved to Leading Edge Gymnastics after the 2006 season. Makayla moved to Utah following the 2008 season. She then began competing for Olympus Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2003, Makayla won the State Championships as a level four. She skipped level five and competed level six in 2004. She won bars, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She then competed level eight in 2005. She finished second on vault at the State Championships. Makayla competed at Regionals. She again competed at Regionals in 2006. In 2007, Makayla finished first on vault at Regionals. She placed fifth all-around.
Makayla began competing level nine in 2008. She won bars at the Battle in Seattle meet. She finished second on bars at the Emerald Team Challenge. She finished third all-around and second on bars at Regionals. She competed at Westerns. In 2009, Makayla finished fourth at the Lady Luck Invitational. She won beam and the all-around at the Bear Country Invitational. She placed second on vault and the all-around at the State Championships. She won floor. Makayla finished second on bars at Regionals. At Westerns, she finished fifth on bars and the all-around. She placed sixth on floor.
She competed a final year of level nine in 2010. She won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the State Championships. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She placed second on vault. At Westerns, Makayla finished third on bars, fourth on vault and seventh all-around. She began competing level ten in 2011. She finished third all-around at the Seattle Open. At Regionals, she finished eighth all-around. She competed at the JO National Invitational Tournament.
