Brittany Johnson was born on May 17, 1990. She trained at Champion Gymnastics in Katy, Texas, during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2002, Brittany competed level ten. She competed at Regionals. In 2003, Brittany competed at the American Challenge as a junior national elite. She qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic. Brittany repeated this feat in 2004. She returned to level ten in 2005. She won all five gold medals at the Houston National Invitational. At JO Nationals, she placed first on beam, ninth on bars and fifth all-around. Brittany won bars and the all-around at Regionals in 2008. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2009, Brittany placed second all-around at the Rose City Classic.
As a freshman at TWU in 2010, Brittany competed in the all-around in seven meets. She earned the USAG Individual Event title on beam. She earned USAG First-Team All-American honors on beam and in the all-around. She won the MIC all-around title. Brittany was first-team all-conference in the all-around and on beam. As a sophomore in 2011, Brittany earned USAG first-team All-American honors in every event and the all-around. She defended her all-around title at the MIC Championships. She earned five MIC Athlete of the Week honors. Brittany qualified to compete at NCAA Regionals as an individual. Brittany won the all-around title at the USAG National Championships.
