April Boone was born in Seattle, Washington, on March 31, 1985. She is the daughter of Mike and Diane Boone. She has two older sisters, Tammie and Alecia. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Seattle, Washington, in 2003. In 2000 and 2001, April trained at Northwest Aerials. She moved to Auburn Gymnastics in 2002. In 2003, she trained at Gymnastics East under John and Tammy Carney.
As a level ten gymnast, April found success. She won Regionals in 2000 and 2002. In 2002, she also won bars and placed second on vault and beam. She finished second all-around at the 2003 Level 10 Regional Championships. At JO Nationals, she finished seventh all-around. At a meet in Santiago, Chile in 2000, April placed second all-around. She finished ninth on bars at JO Nationals in 2002.
In the fall of 2003, she began attending Arizona State University. She competed on vault, bars and floor. She primarily contributed on vault. She was the only ASU gymnast to compete at the 2005 NCAA Championships. She finished in the top fifteen all-around. She competed in the all-around thirteen times in the season. She was a Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention. As a junior, she competed in the all-around at every meet. April scored a perfect ten on vault against Iowa State. She was a Pac-10 All-Academic second team. April was named the team captain for her senior season. She made the All-Pac-10 Team on beam. She was a Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention. April also was named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week in March. She scored a perfect ten on beam.
