Lindsay Anne Borkan was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 18, 1985. She is the daughter of Mimi and Brian Borkan. She has one brother, Brett and one sister, Sami. She trained at American Academy of Gymnastics under Leonard Issacs in Wheeling, Illinois during her club career. She has a bar move called "the Borkan".
Lindsay led her high school team to four-straight Illinois State titles. She broke the state record her senior year. She qualified to Nationals seven times. She was a JO National Team member twice. Lindsay competed level ten for seven years. She won the all-around title at JO Nationals in 2001. She was the Region 5 Athlete of the Year in 2001. At Penn State, she competed in seven meets before suffering a season-ending achilles tendon injury against Ohio State. She competed in the all-around before that. As a sophomore, she was Academic All-Big Ten. She was also an NACGC/W Scholar Athlete. She competed in nine meets. She competed on vault twice, bars seven times and beam seven times.
As a junior, Lindsay earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was an NACGC/W Scholar Athlete. She competed in thirteen meets. She competed on bars, beam and floor. Lindsay finished her career with Academic All-Big Ten honors. She was sidelined at the beginning of season because of injuries. Shew returned to compete on beam at the end of the season.
