Briana Jones was born on June 20, 1990 She trained at Red River Valley Gymnastics in North Dakota during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2003, Briana competed level eight. She finished in the top twenty all-around at Regionals. Briana competed level nine in 2005. She finished in the top ten all-around at Regionals. She competed at Westerns. In 2006, Briana finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She finished 25th all-around at Westerns. Briana won the North Dakota High School State Champion on beam and in the all-around. In 2007, Briana competed level ten. She finished third on vault and floor at Regionals. She finished eighth all-around. Briana placed third all-around at the State Championships. In 2008, Briana finished eighth all-around at Regionals.

Briana did not compete as a freshman at Minnesota in 2009. She exhibitioned on floor at the season opener. She exhibitioned throughout the season on beam. In 2010, Briana competed on beam and floor in the first half of the season. She competed on beam at NCAA Regionals. She was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
