Alex Marie Brockway was born on May 26th, 1988 in Hampton, Virginia. At a young age of 7, Alex began her gymnastics career at a small gym called Brigettes Gymnastics. She was placed on the gym's competitive team. Since Alex progressed so quickly each year, climbing higher and higher in the levels of gymnastics, she soon switched gyms again. She was only at Sunburst Gymnastics, in New Jersey, for a short time before she made her gym switch to Parkettes Gymnastics. She went to Parkettes between 2001 and 2005 before her final gym switch to Lehigh Valley Sports Academy.

Before the 2003 season started, she qualified as an Elite gymnast. Throughout the year Alex stayed very consistent at every meet that she entered. At the Parkette Invitational she placed 8th AA out of her division and then placing 6th at the Chicago Style meet and the Podium Meet. Her scores seemed to improve as she entered into each meet. Her seasons best meet was at the Friendship Classic placing 5th AA. She was doing so well during her season and knowing that the most important meet was coming up, she knew that she could do her best and qualify to nationals. Since she placed 12th at the U.S. Classic, she qualified for her very first U.S. Championships. Despite some errors throughout the meet, Alex just missed a spot on the national team. However she is more determined than ever to come back next year.

Alex started off 2004 with the Sand Dollar Invitational in Orlando, Florida. She placed 1st AA, 2nd UB, and 2nd FX. She continued with Parkette Invitational which she placed 4th AA. She had an amazing performance at the American Classic and placed 9th, qualifing to her first senior national championships. Alex, unfortunately, once again missed qualifying the National Team. Right after the national meet, Alex decided to retire from Elite and compete Level 10 until College.

Alex started her Level 10 season at Greater New York Invitational which she placed 2nd AA. She continued her Level 10 career at Maryland Classic (5th AA), Parkette Invitational (1st AA), and California Classic (6th AA). Alex then competed at Level 10 State Championships where she placed 2nd AA, 2nd VT, 2nd UB, 2nd BB, and 1st FX. Sadly, Alex was unable to compete at her second Junior Olympic Nationals due to a foot injury. Alex visited a couple of colleges during the month of May. Alex was proud to announce that she will go to Penn State University in Fall of 2007! She continued 2006 as a Level 10 and enjoyed her last year in high school during that year.

As a freshman at Penn State, Alex competed in every regular-season meet on vault and bars. She competed in the all-around once finishing second against West Virginia. Unfortunately, Alex was injured and unable to compete at the Regional Championships. She continued to improve during her sophomore season in 2008. She competed in 12 of the 13 meets. She participated in the all-around eight times. She was named the Ann Carr Award winner as the most inspirational gymnast of the meet against West Virginia. She won the all-around. She finished first on bars five times. She earned Secon Team All-Big Ten honors. During her junior season she competed on vault, bars and beam mainly. She competed floor and the all-around three times. At the NCAA Championships, she qualified for the uneven bars event finals. She earned first-team All-American honors for the vent.
