Erin Buchanan was born on February 24, 1995. She trains at Capital Gymnastics in Burke, Virginia.

In 2003, Erin competed level five. She won a silver medal on floor at the Excalibur Cup. She moved up to level six in 2004. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. Erin competed level seven in 2005. She finished third on vault at the Maryland Classic. Erin again placed in the top ten at States. She moved up to level eight in 2006. She won a bronze medal on floor at States.

Erin competed level nine in 2007. She finished second all-around and first on floor at States. At Regionals, she won a bronze medal on floor. She ended her season with a top thirty finish at Easterns. She began competing level ten in 2008. She placed in the top ten at States. She finished eleventh all-around at Regionals. She continued competing level ten in 2009. Erin finished fourth all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational and Capital Cup. She won beam at the latter. At States, she finished fourth all-around. She also placed fourth at Regionals. Erin ended her season by placing 15th all-around at JO Nationals. She finished eighth on floor.

She continued to have strong results in 2010. At the Maryland Classic, she won bars and the all-around. Erin again won the all-around at the Metroplex Challenge. She placed second at the Excalibur Cup. At States, Erin won floor and placed second all-around. She placed second all-around at Regionals. Erin finished seventh on vault and tenth all-around at JO Nationals. She was named to the USAG Region 7 All-Star Team. She represented the region at a training camp in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in October 2010. In 2011, Erin finished first on bars third all-around at the Capital Cup. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She placed third on vault. She finished sixth all-around and seventh on floor at JO Nationals. Erin earned a spot on the Region 7 All-star team for the second year in a row.
