Jade Buford was born on June 18, 1998. She trained at Virginia Techniques until 2007. Her family then moved to Japan and she began training at Asahi Seimei Taiso Club. After returning to the States in 2009, Jade began training at Southern Tier Gymnastics Academy in Endicott, New York under Daile Van Patten. She moved to Texas Dreams Gymnastics in the summer of 2010. She will graduate from high school in 2016.
In 2006, Jade competed level five. At the Carly Patterson Big Dog Meet, she placed first on floor and second all-around. At the State Championships, she was the floor gold medalist and the all-around and beam silver medalist. She moved up to level six in 2007, competed half the season and finished the season at level seven. At level six, she won the gold medal on bars at the Commonwealth Cup. She also was the gold medalist in the beam finals at the Carly Patterson Big Dog Meet. At level seven, she was the all-around champion at the RockStar Invitational. She also swept the gold medals at the Level Seven State Championships.
In 2008, Jade began competing with Asahi Seimei Taiso Club. During the summer, Jade was the only American to compete in the Eastern Japan Junior National competition in Hokkaido, Japan. She finished 7th on beam, 12th on floor and 14th AA out of 133 gymnasts. Finishing in the top 25 AA qualified her to the All-Japan Junior Nationals in Yokohama where she had another impressive performance. In 2009, she competed in the Asahi Cup/Moonsault Competition. She placed 3rd on floor and 4th on bars in a field of 50 gymnasts.
Jade returned to the United States in 2009. In December, Jade won vault, bars, floor and the all-around as a level eight at the Candy Cane Classic. She moved up to level nine in January of 2010. She finished second on bars and third all-around at the Winter Graffiti meet. She placed third on vault at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She competed in the hopes elite division at both the Sand Dollar Invitational and Buckeye Classic. Jade also put in solid performances at the I Love NY Cup, Pink Invitational and Level 9 State Championships.
