Jamie Bullock was born on August 3, 1988. She is the daughter of Jim and Mary Bullock. She is the oldest of three children in her family. She has a younger brother Ryan and a younger sister Carly. Jamie graduated from high school in 2006. She trained at TAGS South where she was coached by Bryon Hough and former Gopher gymnast Mindy (Knaeble) Kiff.

In 1999, she competed as a level nine. She finished in the top twenty five at Westerns. By 2001, Jamie was competing as a level ten. She qualified to the JO National Championships that year. She finished eighth all-around at JO Nationals in 2002. She was also seventh on beam. Jamie also qualified to JO Nationals in 2003. She finished eighth on beam and floor. In 2004, she finished second all-around at States. Jamie won the state beam title. She then took second place at Regionals in the all-around competition. At JO Nationals, she finished twelfth all-around. In 2005, Jamie won the all-around and beam state titles. She took second place at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished sixth all-around. Jamie did not compete in 2006 because of an injury.

Jamie competed in diving at Eden Prairie High School for three seasons. She was an all-conference and all-section honoree all three years she competed. She was an all-star award winner her sophomore and junior seasons. Jamie was also named her team's MVP in her sophomore and junior seasons. She qualified to the State Diving Meet three times. Jamie finished 10th as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore and third as a junior. She was nationally-ranked at number eight as a junior.

She began competing for Minnesota in 2007. she competed in the all-around against Iowa State and bars against Penn State. She had surgery on her right foot in January and missed the remainder of the season. As a sophomore in 2008, she struggled with a foot injury the entire season. She vaulted at four meets. She won at the Best of Minnesota meet. She competed on bars three times and beam four times. In 2009, Jamie competed on beam in every meet. She won her first beam title against Iowa. She placed in the top three seven times. She competed on vault beginning in March.
