Sarena Bumbarger was born on October 8, 1991. She trained at LaFleur's Largo during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2003, Sarena competed level seven. She competed at the State Championships. She moved up to level eight in 2004. She finished first on beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. She finished second all-around at Regionals. In 2005, she won vault and the all-around at the Gatlinburg Classic. She moved up to level nine in 2006. She qualified to Easterns. In 2007, she finished first on floor at the Gasparilla Classic. She won vault at the Lightning City Classic. At the State Championships, Sarena won vault, beam and the all-around. She won bars, floor and the all-around at Easterns!

Sarena began competing level ten in 2008. She finished second on beam at the Tampa Bay Classic. In 2009, Sarena finished third on bars at the Daytona Beach Open and third on floor at the Palm Beach Invitational. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She competed at JO Nationals. Sarena won floor at the 2010 Tampa Bay Classic. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Atlanta Centennial Classic. At the Buckeye Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Sarena won beam at the State Championships. She finished tenth all-around at Regionals.
