Kathryn Carlisle was born on April 21, 1996. She has a younger sister, Abby, who is also a gymnast. Katie trained at Buckeye Gymnastics until the fall of 2010. She then moved to Perfection Gymnastics. She returned to Buckeye in the summer of 2011.

In 2005, she competed level five. She finished second on bars at the Buckeye Classic. She won beam, floor and the all-around. In 2006, she competed level eight. She finished 14th all-around at Regionals out of 48. She placed sixth on bars. She also began competing as a hopes elite. She competed at the US Challenge. In the fall, she made the National TOPs Team.

Katie moved up to level nine in 2007. She finished third on beam, second on bars and first on floor at the Buckeye Classic. She finished second all-around. At the For Love or Money meet, she placed second on beam and third all-around. Katie finished in the top ten at States. At Regionals, she finished fifth on vault out of 41 athletes. She continued competing in hopes. She placed fifth overall at the American Challenge. She made the National TOPs Team for the second time in the fall.

She did not compete in 2008. In 2009, she returned strongly. At the CGA Coaches Spectacular, she finished second on bars and fourth all-around. She won floor and the all-around at the Buckeye Classic. She States, she placed second all-around. She also finished second on beam. Katie finished second on beam, vault, and the all-around at Regionals. She won floor. At Easterns, she finished second in the all-around and on bars. She won beam. In June, she easily qualified to junior pre-elite at the Parkette Elite Qualifier. She competed at the US Challenge. Katie had a strong 2010 season. She finished third on bars at the Buckeye Classic. She won bars and placed second all-around at the Arnold Gymnastics Challenge. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around. Katie placed tenth on bars at JO Nationals.

Katie had a great 2011 season. She finished first all-around at the Twistars Invitational. At the Circle of Stars meet, she won vault, bars and the all-around. Katie placed first on beam and the all-around at the Athlete Warrior Challenge. At the IGI Chicago Style, she won vault and bars. Katie won beam, floor and the all-around at the Queen City Classic. She finished first on floor and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on beam and third all-around. Katie placed third on bars at JO Nationals. She finished 17th all-around.
