Alina Cartwright was born on July 9, 1993. She trained at Naperville Gymnastics Club until 2004. She then trained at Aerial Gymnastics. She then competed for Premier Gymnastics Academy West for one season in 2007. She returned to Naperville in 2008. Alina followed her coaches to Legacy Elite in the spring of 2010.
In 2001, Alina competed level five. She won the Oswego Invitational. By 2004, she was competing level eight. She qualified for Regionals. Alina continued competing level eight in 2005. She finished third on vault at Regionals. She moved up to level nine in 2007. She won vault at the For Love or Money meet. At the Hawaiian Pineapple Invitational in 2008, she won vault and placed second all-around.
Her final season as a level nine was in 2009. She won bars and floor at the Twistars Invitational. At the Bravo Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around Alina also won beam, floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Flip'r meet, she won vault, bars, beam and the all-around. Alina won vault and finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won beam, floor and the all-around. She ended her season at Level 9 Easterns, winning vault and the all-around.
She moved up to level ten in 2010. She finished third all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational and fourth at the Bravo Classic. She won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Gateway Challenge. At the IGI Chicago Style, she placed third on vault and beam. Alina won beam and the all-around at the Arena Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault and placed third on floor. She won vault at Regionals and earned an alternate spot for JO Nationals. She was then given the chance to compete, placing a strong eighth all-around. She finished third on floor and sixth on vault. Alina committed to Michigan State shortly after the meet.
