Cayla Boyce was born on April 12, 1990. She trained at Idaho Falls Training Center. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2005, Cayla competed level five. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2006, she finished fourth on bars and floor at the National Judges Cup. She won all five gold medals at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed third on bars. She finished 15th all-around and eighth on floor at JO Nationals. Cayla missed most of the 2007 season due to an injury. In 2008, she finished third all-around at the Gasparilla Classic. She won beam at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed sixth on beam, seventh on floor and 15th all-around.

As a freshman at Sac State in 2009, Cayla competed in ten meets. She competed in the all-around seven times. During her sophomore year in 2010, Cayla qualified for the NCAA West Regional on beam. She won beam at the WAC Championships. She finished first on beam six times throughout the season. Cayla also competed on floor in all eleven meets. She competed on bars twice before a shoulder injury. Cayla redshirted the 2011 season.
