Kelsey Cofsky was born on August 23, 1991. She trained at GAB Norwood until 2004. She then moved to New England Sports Academy. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2003, Kelsey competed level seven. She competed level nine in 2005. She won floor and finished second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won floor and finished eighth all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2006. She finished fifth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, Kelsey finished first on beam and fifth all-around. She finished 18th all-around at JO Nationals. In 2007, she won bars at the Brestyan Invitational. Kelsey won floor at Regionals. She finished 31st all-around at JO Nationals.
She continued competing level ten in 2008. Kelsey finished first on vault, beam and the all-around at the Boston Classic. At the State Championships, she won bars, beam and the all-around. She finished third all-around and second on beam at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2009, Kelsey placed third on vault and beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. She won vault, beam and the all-around at the East Coast Classic. She finished first on vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Little Bigger Invitational. Kelsey placed first on floor and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed third all-around and first on beam. She competed at JO Nationals.
As a freshman at Maryland in 2010, she competed on vault, bars and floor in all thirteen meets. She competed all-around four times. Kelsey was named EAGL's Rookie of the Year. She also earned EAGL Rookie of the Week three times. Kelsey earned EAGL All-Tournament first-team honors on bars and second-team on vault and floor. She was also on the EAGL All-Academic team and ACC Academic Honor Roll.
