Alia Coleman was born on September 9, 1993. She trained at Fox Gymnastics in Vacaville, California, until 2003. She then moved to Woodland Gymnastics where she was coached by Liz Crandall. When Woodland shut their team program down, she followed Crandall to Davis Gymnastics for a year before Crandall opened up her own gym, International Gymnastics Centre. After Crandall moved out of the area following the 2006 season, Alia moved to Byers Sacramento where she currently trains.
In 2002, Alia competed level six. She won the all-around at the Reach for the Stars Invitational. She also won the beam title. At her home meet, Flip Into Fall, she won beam, floor and the all-around title. Alia finished second all-around at the River City Classic. She won bars and floor. At the Tumble in the Jungle, she won all four events and the all-around title! Alia also won the Hollywood Invitational. At the Level 6 Zone Championships, she finished fifth all-around and second on floor. Her performance qualified her for the State Championships. Alia had a great state meet, finishing third on bars and beam. In addition she won the floor and all-around titles!
Alia moved up to level seven in 2003. She won the all-around at the Wine Country Classic. At the Golden Bear Invitational, she finished second all-around. She won bars. Alia finished third all-around at the MEGA Invite. At the Out of this World meet she won bars, beam, floor and the all-around title. At States, Alia finished fourth all-around. She won a bronze medal on floor. With her new gym in 2004, Alia competed level eight. At the AOGC Invitational, she finished fourth all-around. She won beam. In addition to a second place all-around finish, Alia won bars at the Roseville Invitational. At the State Championships, she won vault, beam and the all-around title! She placed second on bars. Her final meet of the season was Regionals. She finished sixth all-around.
She continued to advance through the levels in 2005. As a level nine, she won bars and finished third all-around at the Flips USA Invitational. At the Wine Country Classic, Alia placed fourth all-around. She won beam and took another fourth place all-around finish at the California Classic. At States, Alia finished fourth all-around. She won a silver medal on bars and a bronze medal on floor. At Regionals, she finished third on bars. Alia also placed in the top ten all-around, which qualified her for the Western Championships. At Westerns, she finished in the top ten on bars. In 2006, Alia competed level nine at the first few meets. She won floor and finished second all-around at the Golden State Classic. She then moved up to level ten. Alia placed in the top ten at States. At Regionals, she finished fourth on floor and eleventh all-around.
Alia decided to move back down to level nine in 2007. She had a very successful season. At the Golden State Classic, she won floor and bars. Alia won the all-around and bars titles at the WOGA Classic. At the AOGC Invitational, she won every event except for vault. Alia also won the all-around and floor titles at the Byers Invitational. At States, she finished third on vault, second on bars and floor and first on beam. She placed second in the all-around to her teammate, Megan Delallo. At Regionals, she finished second all-around. She won bars and floor. Her final level nine meet was Westerns. Alia placed sixth all-around. She won a bronze medal on floor and a gold medal on bars. Alia did not compete in the 2008 season but returned in early 2009. She finished fourth on bars at the Twistars Invitational. She placed third on bars and floor at the Tachi Palace Invitational. She also competed at the WOGA Classic.
