Lisa Colwell was born on July 17, 1986. She trained at Tulsa World of Gymnastics for several years. She made the 1997 and 1998 National TOP Team. In 1999, she qualified to the US Challenge as a TOPS Elite. She finished sixth all-around.

Lisa switched to Kraft Gymnastics by 2000. She qualified to junior international elite with them. At the US Classic, Lisa finished sixteenth all-around. This qualified her for the US National Championships. Nationals were held in St. Louis, Missouri. Lisa finished fourteenth all-around. By placing in the top twenty, she qualified for the US National Team. Lisa was selected in the fall to compete at the Jr. Pan Am Games in Brazil. She finished fourth all-around. Lisa won bars and helped the USA win the team competition. She had a lot of injuries in 2001. She returned to compete at the US National Championships. Lisa received the Shannon Miller Award in 2001. She retired from gymnastics in 2001.
