Julie was born on June 13, 1990 in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. She has an older brother, Kevin. Julie’s parents put her into gymnastics recreational classes at a very young age. Julie's first gym experience started at Rainbow Gymnastics. Soon after being at Rainbow Gymnastics, she switched the gyms to Starbound Gymnastics. She quickly moved to the top with achieved every level with excellence. When she became as a level 10, she soon began to realize that she needed to switch to a gym that had more experience in the elite field, since one of her goals was to become an elite. She then switched from Starbound Gymnastics to Parkettes Gymnastics in 2001.

Since the gym switch, Julie has been able to accomplish so much in the sport in such a short period of time. After just a year of working with the top-of-the-line coaching staff, she qualified to her first JO Nationals by winning the regional title in 2002. At the JO Nationals she was very consistent and placed a solid 13th overall. With such a great start at Parkettes, she was sure that she would improve for the future.

In 2003, she attended the annual WOGA Classic meet and qualified to national elite. Unfortunately, exactly a week after Julie had qualified to national elite, she had a back injury which would for sure keep her from training. Julie was out for most of the 2003 season but was able to compete at a small meet called Christmas in Annapolis around the end of the year. She placed 1st overall and placed 1st on beam, bars, and vault. She made a fantastic comeback!

In 2004, Julie qualified herself as an International Elite. She had again started off the year with a wonderful meet, however, she injured her wrist during that year. At the end of 2004, Julie decided to go back to public school, so Julie will be competing as a level 10 until college. Julie started off 2005 by winning silver medals in all-around and on uneven bars plus a gold medal on vault and double bronze medals on beam and floor at Cancun Classic. Sadly, Julie could not compete at Junior Olympic National in 2005 due of an injury. 2006 is Julie's best season ever. She traveled to the annual Maryland Classic and Parkette Invitational where she placed 3rd and 1st respectively. Julie qualified to Junior Olympic National after winning all-around, vault, and floor at Level 10 Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed 2nd all-around, 2nd vault, 3rd bars, and 3rd floor. She made the Junior Olympic National Team.

Unfortunately, Julie was not able to continue her level 10 success in 2007 due of broken leg. In November, Julie signed with the University of Alabama. She returned in 2008. At the Level 10 State Championships, she finished second on bars and fifth all-around. She placed third all-around at Regionals. She finished second on vault. Upon arrival at Alabama, Julie decided it was not for her. She transferred to Ball State.
