Olivia Chauntelle Courtney was born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 26, 1992. She has one sister Crystal, who is a former level ten. Olivia started gymnastics at the age of three. Olivia made the junior pre-team at Kentucky Gymnastics Academy. An Air Force brat, Olivia moved multiple times, living in six different states. She competed level five for Karon's Gymnastics. As a level six she trained at Hills Gymnastics in Maryland. She competed level seven with Acrosports. She then trained at Capital Gymnastics until 2006. In the fall of 2006, she moved to Orlando, Florida where she began training at Orlando Metro Gymnastics with Jeff Wood.
In 2002, Olivia competed level eight. She won the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished second. In 2004, Olivia competed as a level ten. She placed second all-around at the Virginia State Championships. She also finished first on bars and floor. At Regionals, she placed fourth on floor. Olivia also placed seventh all-around. This qualified her for the JO Nationals which were held in Orlando. She placed on floor at that meet. This was the last meet of her junior olympic career.
Olivia began elite competition in 2005. She started her season by placing third all-around at the Maryland Classic and second on floor at the Parkette Invite. She qualified to the American Challenge, where she finished first all-around. Olivia also won the National Elite Qualifier. This qualified her as a junior international elite. She finished her season at the US Classic. In 2006, Olivia requalified to junior international elite. She finished eleventh all-around at the US Classic, qualifing to the junior national championships. Olivia placed 18th all-around at Nationals!
She continued competing as a junior international elite in 2007. At the US Classic, she finished second on vault and fourth all-around. She placed seventh all-around at the US National Championships. She placed fourth on vault. She made her first US National Team! In November, she was chosen for the Junior Pan American Championships. She helped the United States Team win.
Olivia moved into the senior division in 2008. At the Jesolo Grand Prix, she helped the United States defeat Italy, Spain and Poland. At the US National Championships, she placed eleventh all-around. She made the US National Team and qualified for Olympic Trials. In the fall, she competed at the PAGU Individual Event Championships. She won floor and placed second on vault. At the International Artistic Challenge in Belgium, she finished second all-around.
In 2009, Olivia was selected for the European Tour. She helped the United States defeat Germany and France. She placed third all-around in the France meet. Olivia won the US Classic in July. Before the US Nationals, she broke her ankle and was forced to miss the meet. She was added to the US National Team despite not competing. In November, she signed with UCLA.
