Kaelyn Cowan was born on August 30, 1995. Kaelyn comes from a gymnastics family; her mother competed for five years, her older sister reached level nine and her younger sister is currently a level six. Kaelyn began gymnastics at the age of three. She began competing at the age of six with Flips Waco. In 2008, her mom and coach left Flips to open Zero Gravity where Kaelyn currently trains.
In 2006, Kaelyn competed level seven. She finished second on floor at the Kurt Thomas Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished first on floor and second all-around in the bronze division. She began competing level nine in 2008. She placed in the top twenty at the State Championships. She missed Regionals due to an injury. Kaelyn continued competing level nine in 2009. She finished third all-around and first on floor at the Texas Prime Meet. She finished eleventh at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed eighth all-around.
She had a great 2010 season. She won the all-around at the Ricky Deci Invitational. At the Presidential Classic, she won vault and bars. She placed second all-around. She finished second all-around and first on bars at the Houston National Invitational. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. Kaelyn won vault, beam and floor. At Regionals, she placed third all-around and second on vault. Kaelyn ended her season at Westerns, finishing ninth all-around and second on floor.
