Courtney Priess was born to Linda and Mel on April 27, 1987. She has one sister, Ashley. Ashley is a current US National Team member and has competed at the World Championships. She began gymnastics at Midwest Academy. Courtney eventually switched to Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy in 2002 to train under Mary Lee Tracy.
Courtney competed as a level ten for several years. In 1998, she was the Illinois All-Around State Runner Up. She also qualified to JO Nationals. In 1999, Courtney continued competing as a level ten. She finished second all-around at the JO National Championships. Courtney was named to the Region 5 All Star Team. She competed at the Masillia Cup in France. In 2000, Courtney qualified to her third JO National Championships. After the competition, she made it to junior international elite. Courtney competed at the US Classic.
In 2002, she returned to level ten. At the Ohio State Championships, she won the all-around state title. Courtney then won Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished seventh all-around. She was also third on vault and second on bars. Courtney was named to the Region 5 All Star Team again. She travelled to France for the Masillia Cup. In 2003, Courtney won the all-around State Title. She finished second at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Courtney was sixth all-around. In 2004, Courtney won the all-around state title. She had a few falls at Regionals which kept her from JO Nationals. However, she earned a scholarship to University of Alabama in the fall. Courtney qualified to JO Nationals in 2005.
As a freshman, she contributed on bars at most of the competitions. She did compete on beam and floor at some meets. Courtney was an Academic All-Sec Team Member. A bad back forced her to retire.
