Julie Crall was born on July 25, 1986. She is the daughter of Rick and Kathy Crall. During her club career, she competed for Queen City Gymnastics. Julie was coached by Jennifer O'Hara and Jenny Cox.
In 1997 and 1998, Julie made the National TOPs Team. She also was a TOPs elite in 1998. In 1999, she competed as a level nine. Julie competed at States and Regionals. She finished second on beam and third on floor at Easterns. She moved up to level ten in 2000. In 2001, she finished fourth all-around and first on beam at States. Julie won beam at Regionals. In 2002, she won floor at States. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. Her first JO National Championships went well. She finished eighth on beam and sixth on floor. Julie finished second all-around at the 2003 Level 10 State meet. She finished third at Regionals. Julie qualified to the JO National Championships. In 2004, she finished second all-around at States and first on floor again. She was the second alternate to JO Nationals. During her senior year, Julie placed second all-around at States.
As a freshman, Julie was named to the All-Big 10 second team. She took third on beam at Big Ten Championships. She finished fifth in the all-around at the NCAA South Central Regional meet. Julie competed in the all-around in the last four meets. She won the 2006 Illinois Athletics Female Newcomer of the Year award. In 2007, she was a second team All-Big Ten selection. She was one of Illinois' top performers before tearing her Achilles during warmups against Auburn. She competed regularly on three events before the injury and compete on the all-around twice. She won six event titles, one on vault, four on beam and one on floor. She had eleven top-three finishes. She was a double-winner at Illinois State winning both vault and beam. She was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and Illinois Scholastic All State Award recipient.
Julie returned from her injury to win the Big Ten Balance Beam title. She competed on bars and beam in all 13 meets. She won seven event titles, six on beam and one on bars. She won beam against Denver, Ohio State, Iowa, Auburn and Missouri. She ended the season ranked fifteenth in the nation on beam. Julie was an Academic All-Big Ten and Illinois Scholastic All-State selection. As a senior, she won the beam title at the IGI Chicago Style. She finished second on beam three times. She battled injuries limiting her to beam. Julie was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She ended her career with 16 event titles.
