Whitney Crater was born to A.C. and Renee Crater on September 26, 1986. She trained at River City Gymnastics under Jamie Russenberger and Hector Planchart during club gymnastics.
Whitney won the Regional vault and bars title as a level nine in 2003. She finished fourth all-around. She went on to finish fourth on vault at Westerns. At the WOGA Classic, she won floor. She led her club team to four state championships titles from 1999-2003. Whitney was a member of the Tidwell Project dance team from 2000-2003 and participated in cheerleading for her high school for three years.
As a freshman, Whitney recorded several great vault scores. As a sophomore, she began competing on both vault and floor. She finished second on vault and floor against Centenary. Whitney also finished second on vault at the Penn State Invitational. She anchored the vault lineup as a junior. She also contributed on floor. Whitney was unable to compete at Regionals because she tore her achilles tendon the week before the meet. She won four titles on each vault and floor. During her senior season she competed on vault and floor.
