Alyssa Cruz was born on July 12, 1993. She trains at IGI in Illinois. She was on the National Diamond TOPs Team in 2001. In 2004, Alyssa qualified to the National TOPS Team. During her career, she attended national training camps.
In 2002, Alyssa competed as a level five. She finished second all-around at the Sectional Championships. She moved up to level six in 2003. Alyssa finished eighth all-around at States. She finished third all-around and first on beam at the 2004 Level 7 State Championships. She competed one meet as a level eight before moving up to level nine in 2005. At States, she finished second on beam. Alyssa qualified to Regionals. She moved up to level ten in 2006. Alyssa did not compete at States. Alyssa later retired from gymnastics.
Alyssa returned to compete in high school gymnastics. As a junior in 2010, she overcame a right heel injury to place second all-around at the Illinois High School State Championships after posting the highest score in the state during Sectionals.
