Chelsea Tang was born on December 5, 1992. She trained at National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2011.

In 2005, Chelsea competed level eight. She won beam at Regionals. She placed second all-around. Chelsea moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished second on beam at the Emerald Team Challenge. She finished in the top ten at Regionals. In 2007, Chelsea finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She placed eighth on beam and ninth on floor at Westerns. She finished 22nd all-around. Chelsea began competing level ten in 2008. She finished first on beam and floor at the State Championships. She competed on two events at Regionals.

Chelsea finished third all-around at the 2009 MAC Open. She placed second on vault at the Long Beach Open. She won beam at the Emerald Team Challenge. At the State Championships, she won vault. She placed first on bars and second all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2010, Chelsea won vault at the World Cup Invitational. She won bars, beam and the all-around at the Seattle Open. She won the all-around title at the Metroplex Challenge. She placed third all-around at the MAC Open. Chelsea won vault and beam at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the Emerald Team Challenge. At Regionals, she placed first on beam. Chelsea won bars at JO Nationals. In 2011, Chelsea finished first on vault, floor and the all-around at the Gem State Invitational. She won all five gold medals at both the MAC Open and Spirit of the Flame Challenge. At the Emerald Team Challenge, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. Chelsea won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on vault and second all-around. Chelsea placed fifth on floor and fourth all-around at JO Nationals.
