Kellie Dangerfield was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 28, 1986. She is the daughter of Jull and Clay Dangerfield. She graduated from Skyline High School. During her club career, she trained at Gymnastics Training Center of Utah under Dave Hancock, Missy Marlowe and Kristy Evers.

In 2001, she competed as a level nine. She qualified for Regionals. By 2003, Kellie was competing as a level ten. At the Utah State Championships, she finished third all-around. She won beam. She finished thirteenth all-around at Regionals. Kellie competed as a level ten in 2004. She finished twelfth all-around at Regionals. She was sixteenth at the 2005 Regional Championships. At Southern Utah State University, Kellie competed on beam during her freshman. She led the team. As a sophomore, she qualified to the Regional Championships as an individual on uneven bars and balance beam. She earned WAC Specialist of the Week in February. Kellie only competed on bars and beam. In 2008, she competed in every meet during the season on bars, beam and floor. She missed two meets on vault and the all-around. She was first-team All-WAC on bars and beam. She was the WAC Champion on balance beam. Kellie was also an Academic all-WAC and NACGC-W scholar athlete.
