Jamie Annette Dantzscher was born on May 2, 1982 in Canoga, California. She trained at Gliders for the majority of her club career. She is the daughter of John and Joyce. Jamie has six siblings. Her two youngest sisters, Jalynne and Janelle, are both from elites and attended school at UCLA. Her older sister, Jennifer, is a coach. She began gymnastics in 1989.

In 1994 Jamie competed at the US Classic as a junior national elite. She finished fourth all-around. Jamie began competing as a junior international elite in 1995. She finished fifth at the American Classic. At the US Olympic Festival, Jamie finished seventh all-around and fifth on vault. Her first national championship was in New Orleans. Jamie finished sixth all-around and won the national vault title. She also took home a silver on bars. Jamie competed in her first international meets that year. At the Rent a Car Invitational she finished seventh all-around. At the prestigious International Juniors Jamie finished eighth all-around and second on floor.

Her final year as a junior was in 1996. She finished fourth all-around at the American Classic. Her next meet was the National Championships. She finished seventh all-around after a rough first day. Jamie also competed in France at the City of Popes Competition. She won the all-around and floor golds. Her other medal was a silver for vault.

Because of a rule change Jamie was not able to compete as a senior in 1997 at international meets. At the American Classic Jamie finished second all-around. She competed at the International Team Championships. Jamie helped the USA team finish second. At Nationals Jamie finished sixth all-around and third on bars. She was able to compete at the Foxsports Challenge in Sydney Australia. Jamie finished fifth all-around, fourth on vault, and second on floor.

1998 was a good year for Jamie. She finished second all-around, second on floor and first on vault at the American Classic. She also helped the USA team win the International Team Championships. Before Nationals, Jamie competed at the Goodwill Games. At Nationals she finished ninth all-around and second on floor.

In 1999, Jamie competed at the American Cup. She finished fifth all-around at the American Classic as well. Jamie helped the USA team win a meet over China and finish second at the International Team Championships. She finished fifth all-around at Nationals. The highlight of the meet was winning the uneven bars title and finishing fourth on floor. Jamie guaranteed her spot on the World Team by finishing fourth at the World Team Trials. Before worlds she competed at the Pan American Games. Jamie finished eighth all-around and second with the team. Her final meet of the season was the World Championships in China.

The Olympics would be held in Sydney in 2000. This was a spectacular year for Jamie. She had a fantastic performance at Nationals. Her third all-around placement made her a favorite for the Olympic Team. After the Olympic Trials Jamie was named to the Olympic Team. She helped the USA team finish fourth at the games. After the Post-Olympic Tour Jamie began her career at UCLA.

From the moment she stepped on campus, Jamie had an immediate impact on UCLA. She scored a perfect ten on her first routine of the season. She scored seven perfect tens at the end of the season. Jamie earned first team All-America honors on bars and floor. She was second-team on vault. At the NCAA National Championships she finished second. Jamie also earned Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors.

In 2002 Jamie won all-around, vault and floor titles at the NCAA Championships. She earned the maximum five All-American honors. Jamie was Honda Award Finalist, West Region Gymnast of the Year and Pac-10 Gymnastics of the Year. She scored seven consecutive perfect tens. She also was the South Central Regional all-around, vault, bars and floor champion. Jamie was First-team All-Pac-10 selection on bars and floor for the second year in a row. She was also a Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention. Jamie was also the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week four times and Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week twice.

In 2003, Jamie was the NCAA uneven bars co-champion. She was second in the all-around, vault and floor. She picked up first-team All-America honors in the all-around, vault, bars and floor. Jamie won second-team honors on beam. She was a Honda Award nominee. Jamie won the South Central Regional all-around, bars, beam and floor titles. For the second straight year Jamie earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors. She was the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week and was the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week twice.

The 2004 season was short. She sat out the first seven meets because of and ankle injury. Jamie won First-team All-America honors on bars and second-team All-America honors on floor. She was the AAI American Award winner. For the third straight year Jamie was also a honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic selection. At the end of her career she led UCLA to three NCAA titles. Jamie won four NCAA individual titles. She also scored 28 perfect tens, had 15 All-American Honors, three Pac-10 titles and eight NCAA regional titles.

Since retiring, Jamie has done several coaching stints at various places including Diamond Elite Gymnastics. She served as an assistant coach at Arizona State for the 2008-2009 season.
