Nicole Dayton was born on October 24, 1991. Her father was a running back at Utah State. She has three brothers and one sister. Her sister, Anna, competed level seven in 2010. Nicole trained at Gedderts' Twistars during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2003, Nicole competed level nine. She placed sixth all-around at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed third all-around. She won vault and floor. In 2004, she finished second on bars at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. At the State Championships, she won beam. She ended her season at Regionals. In 2005, Nicole finished first on vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She won vault and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed 17th all-around. She won vault. In 2006, Nicole won vault, beam, and the all-around at the State Championships. She won vault and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she won vault.
Nicole had a strong 2007 season. She won vault at the Hard Rock Invitational. At the California Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Nicole placed first on vault, beam and the all-around at the Motown Madness meet. She won vault, bars and the all-around at the State Championships. At JO Nationals, she won vault. In November, she had surgery on a bone spur in her foot. She recovered by late March to win the Motown Madness meet. At JO Nationals, she placed third on vault and sixth on floor. In 2009, she won bars at the IGI Chicago Style. At the State Championships, she won vault, beam and the all-around. Nicole placed second all-around at Regionals. She ended her season at JO Nationals, finishing second on beam.
As a freshman at Stanford, Nicole was limited because of a bone spur in her foot. She competed on vault in four meets.
