Danielle Buchanan was born on May 12, 1993. She trained at Genesis Gymnastics through the 2009 season. She then moved to Gymnastics Olympica. She graduated from high school in 2011.

In 2001, Danielle competed level five. She qualified to the State Championships. A year and a half later, she finished third all-around at the 2003 Level 7 State Championships. Danielle moved up to level eight in 2004. She won bars and the all-around at the San Diego Classic. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed third on beam. Danielle continued competing level eight in 2005. She won vault and floor at the Surf City Classic. At the State Championships, she won beam. She finished second all-around at Regionals.

Danielle moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished second all-around at the Spirals Invitational. She won all five gold medals at the Tumble Over Breast Cancer meet. At the State Championships, she won beam. She finished in the top fifteen at Regionals. She competed at Westerns. In 2007, Danielle finished first all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. She won beam at the Surf City Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault. She placed third all-around. At Regionals, she finished third on floor. Danielle competed at Westerns for the second time.

Danielle began competing level ten in 2008. She finished fifth all-around at the California Classic. She placed third all-around at the American Kids Cup. At the State Championships, she finished fifth all-around. Danielle placed second on bars at the 2009 Lady Luck Invitational. She finished second on beam at the AOGC Invitational. She qualified to Regionals. In 2010, Danielle won vault at the Team OC Classic. She placed third all-around and first on vault at the Vegas Cup. At the Return of the Titans meet, she won the all-around title. Danielle won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Malibu Coast Challenge. At the State Championships, she won vault and finished fifth all-around. Danielle placed second on bars at the 2011 Lady Luck Invitational. She won bars and beam at the LA Classic. At the Heart of a Champion meet, she won beam. Danielle won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Malibu Coast Challenge. She missed the championship season due to a knee injury.
