Sarah DeMeo was born on January 29, 1992 in Hilliard, Ohio. Sarah is the oldest child of Susan and Craig DeMeo. She has a younger sister, Allison. Sarah began her gymnastics career at early age of six at Diamond Gymnastics in Overland Park, Kansas. After the 2004 season, Sarah's coaches at Diamond moved to Oklahoma to coach at Dynamo Gymnastics. Sarah moved to Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE) to train under Al and Armine Fong. When she decided to return to level ten in the summer of 2008, she moved to Eagles Gymnastics.
She began competing as a level 8 in 2002. At the Level 8 Regionals, she won all events except for floor exercise. In the next year as a Level 9, she placed 2nd all-around at Level 9 Regionals and qualified to Level 9 Westerns where she placed 7th all-around. She also earned herself on the TOPS National Team!
Sarah started her 2004 season by placing second at the WOGA Classic. She then finished second at the Level 9 Regionals. Sarah made pre-elite at the Pikes Peak Cup. At the American Challenge she finished second overall. Sarah finished off her Junior Olympic career by winning the Level 9 Westerns. She then traveled to the national team training center and qualified to Junior International Elite. That allowed her to compete at the US Classic. She finished 18th and qualified to her first Junior National Championships. US Nationals was a good experience for Sarah, she finished 18th after two days.
In 2005 she has won the Dragon Invitational and finished fourth at the Coaches Cup. At the 2005 US Classic in Virginia Beach, Sarah finished 13th all-around and qualified to the National Championships for the second year. She finished 12th all-around and made her first US National Team! Sarah started off her 2006 season at USA versus New Zealand and Japan and won a silver medal with her USA team. Sarah once again qualified to her third Junior US National Championships! Sarah was struggling with a back injury beginning of the season. At the 2006 US Classic in Kansas City, Missouri, she placed sixth all-around and won balance beam. She went to VISA Championships in St. Paul, MN where she placed 7th all-around and qualified to her second US National Team.
Sarah traveled to Houston to compete in the USA v. The World competition in early 2007. She did well. She then competed at the Gymnix International. She finished fourth all-around and qualified to all four event finals. She won a bronze medal on vault, silver medal on beam and a gold medal on floor. In August, Sarah made her third straight junior national team. In 2008, Sarah finished second all-around at the Dragon Invitational. She was assigned the Gymnix International in February. She helped the USA team win and she placed fourth all-around. Sarah won a bronze medal on floor in the event finals. After struggling with elbow pain throughout 2007 and 2008, Sarah decided to compete level ten in July 2008. She moved to Eagles Gymnastics. In December, Sarah won vault, floor and the all-around at the Eagle's Winter Invite.
In January of 2009, she competed at the Chow's Rising Stars Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa. She won five gold medals! She then won a bronze medal on vault at the Pikes Peak Cup. Her next meet was the IGI Chicago Style. She finished second on floor. Sarah gave a verbal commitment to Alabama in March. She won her next two meets, the Show Me Invitational and St. Louis Classic. She won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Show Me Invitational. At the St. Louis Classic, she won vault, bars, beam and the all-around. At Regionals, Sarah finished fourth on vault. She won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals. She won bars. She finished fifth all-around. In November, Sarah signed with Alabama.
