Courtney Dennison was born in Tucson, Arizona on March 11, 1986. She is the daughter of Wendy and Richard Dennison. She has four brothers, Christoper, Travis, Brandon and Troy. She graduated from Marana High School. During her club career, she trained at Tumbleweeds.

In 1996, Courtney competed as a level seven. She finished first all-around at States. She also won bars and floor. By 2000, Courtney was competing as a level nine. She finished first on vault and floor at States. At Westerns, the highest meet a level nine can attend, she placed fourth all-around. Courtney was also second on beam.

She moved up to level ten in 2001. Courtney won the all-around, bars and beam state titles. She finished tenth all-around at Regionals. In 2002, Courtney won beam at States. She qualified to her first JO Nationals. She finished eighth on beam and in the top thirty all-around. At the 2003 Arizona State Championships, Courtney won the all-around and uneven bars titles. She then finished fourth all-around at Regionals. Courtney placed in the top fifteen at JO Nationals. During her senior season, she won vault at States. She placed second on beam in Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished fifth on beam.

Courtney began attending Oregon State in 2004. She performed in every meet but one during her freshman year. She hit most of her routines. She competed on beam and vault. As a sophomore, she battled bruised heels early in the season. She was solid on vault and beam. In 2007, Courtney continued competing on vault and beam. She retired from gymnastics before the 2008 season and became a Student Assistant Coach.
