Ashanee Dickerson was born on May 2, 1991. She trained at Gymnastics Unlimited in Florida until she graduated from high school in 2009.

In 2002, Ashanee competed level nine. She qualified to Regionals. In 2003, Ashanee qualified to Easterns. She placed 16th all-around out of 50. She continued competing level nine in 2004. She finished eighth all-around at Easterns. She moved up to level ten in 2005. She won the all-around title at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed 19th all-around. In 2006, she finished fourth on vault and twelfth all-around at Regionals. In 2007, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Lightning City Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault and bars. Ashanee placed second on vault and fifth all-around at JO Nationals.

She continued competing as a level ten in 2008. She swept the gold medals at the Gasparilla Classic. At the Sand Dollar Invitational, she won floor. Ashanee won the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won bars and the all-around. She finished ninth all-around at JO Nationals. She placed second on floor and fourth on beam. In 2009, Ashanee won bars at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the Daytona Beach Open. at the Gasparilla Classic, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Tampa Bay Classic. At the City of Lights Invitational, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. Ashanee swept the gold medals at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won beam, floor and the all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals placing eighth on vault and beam. She finished 14th all-around.

She made an immediate impact at Florida. She won twenty two event titles to lead her team including seven in the all-around and on floor. She won five on vault. Ashanee won the all-around at her first three meets. She earned SEC Freshman of the Week four times and Sec Gymnast of the Week once. Ashanee totaled the top two Florida all-around scores by a freshman. At the SEC Championships, she placed second in the all-around and on beam. She was named to the All-SEC First Team and also earned SEC Freshman of the Year. At Regionals, she finished first all-around. She was named Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year. At the NCAA Championships, she earned first-team All-American honors on vault and floor. In 2011, Ashanee earned three All-American second-team honors on beam, floor and in the all-around. She earned NCAA Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year for the second year in a row. Ashanee won floor at the SEC Championships to earned a spot on the ALL-SEC first-team. She won the all-around against Nebraska, Kentucky and at LSU. She was named SEC Gymnast of the Week after claiming the event title on every event at LSU. She led Florida with twenty three event titles including seven on floor, six on beam, five on vault, three all-around titles and one bars title. Ashanee was also a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
