Kari Dieffenderfer was born on August 25, 1991. She trained at Lanier Gymnastics until 2002. She then began competing with Gwinnett Gymnastics Center. Kari graduated from high school in 2009.
In the fall of 2001, Kari competed level seven. She won bars and beam at the Trick or Treat meet. She competed level nine in 2003. In 2004, Kari finished ninth all-around at Regionals. She placed ninth on floor and 20th all-around at Easterns. She competed level ten in 2007. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2008, Kari won bars at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. She competed at JO Nationals. Kari won bars, beam and the all-around at the 2009 Spring Break-Out. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. She won bars at Regionals. She finished second all-around. At JO Nationals, Kari placed seventh on bars. She finished 23rd all-around.
As a freshman at CMU in 2010, Kari competed in every meet. She began the season on bars but added vault in the middle of the season. She finished fifth on bars at the NCAA Regional Championships. She also competed on beam against Ball State. She will redshirt the 2011 season due to a torn labrum.
