Barbara Donaldson was born on September 15, 1992 in Santiago, Chile. She trained at Stars Gymnastics in Bakersfield through the 2005 season. She then spent one year at American Gymnastics Academy before returning to Stars. She moved to Waller's GymJam Academy after the 2008 season. Barbara graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2004, Barbara competed level seven at the California Classic. She continued competing level seven in 2005. She finished third on bars at the Flips USA Invitational and second on bars at the San Diego Classic. Barbara won bars and the all-around at the Vegas Vacation meet. She competed at the State Championships. She moved up to level eight in 2006. She swept the gold medals at the Optional Hoedown. She finished in the top fifteen at both the State and Regional Championships. In 2007, Barbara finished second at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. She finished third on vault at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals.

Barbara moved up to level nine for the 2008 season. She finished third on vault at the Golden State Friendship Challenge. She competed at the State Championships. Barbara began competing level ten in 2009. She finished second on vault and floor at the San Diego Classic. She placed in the top ten at the WOGA Classic and Heart of a Champion Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished tenth. In 2010, Barbara finished third at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. She won vault at the Return of the Titans. At the State Championships, she finished third all-around with a 37.000. At Regionals, she placed ninth. She competed at JO Nationals, finishing 31st all-around.
