Miya Dotson was born on March 9, 1994. She trained at Euro Stars Gymnastics through the 2009 season. She then moved to Oakland Gymnastics. Miya will graduate from high school in 2012.

In 2005, Miya competed level five. She won bars at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2006. She won floor and the all-around at the State Championships. In 2007, Miya placed third all-around at the Level 7 State Championships. She competed level eight in 2008. She finished first on beam and third on bars at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won bars. She placed fifth all-around.

She moved up to level nine in 2009. Miya finished second on bars at the Wolverine Classic. At the State Championships, she placed second on bars. Miya won bars at Regionals. She moved up to level ten in 2010. She finished first on bars at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. Miya finished fourth on floor at the Circle of Stars meet and fourth on bars at the San Diego Classic. She placed in the top twenty at both the State and Regional Championships. In 2011, she won the all-around title at the Circle of Stars meet. She placed second all-around at the Athlete Warrior Challenge. At the Presidential Classic, she finished first on vault and the all-around. Miya competed at the Nastia Liukin Cup.
